The interesting thing about my experience with LAPC
is that I didn't join it because I was looking for friends.
I actually have a close group of friends that I spend
time with on a pretty consistent basis.
What drew me to this group was the sheer variety of
things to do that were listed on the events calendar,
everything from hiking to walking tours of L.A., wine
tasting to dinners and bar events. I have to admit that
I've always been the planner in my group of friends
in regard to our activities. I was always on the look
out for something fun and new, but being on person,
there's no way that I can know about everything that's
going on in Southern California.
Through LAPC, there are things that I tried (as well
as my friends) that I never even knew about or did before.
I did walking tours of L.A., a tour of a Japanese garden,
doing the Brewery art walk, etc. and all because of
Event Coordinators who wanted to share something that
they enjoyed doing with others.
Now that I'm an Event Coordinator myself, I'm doing
the same thing - introducing people to hopefully, new
and fun experiences, places, etc. I find joy when someone
comes up to me after an event or emails me telling me
that they really enjoyed the event that I planned. In
the process of being just a member who only goes to
event to now an Event Coordinator, lo and behold, I've
started making new friends - friends that I may not
have met under regular circumstances. Not that the friends
I made before aren't still very important to me, because
they're actually more than just friends, they're my
sisters, but a heart is pretty big and there is always
room for new friends, especially some of the great people
I've met through my experience with LAPC.
Like anything, you get what you put in and if you really
make an honest effort to get involved, the rewards far
exceed the initial effort. I already had a pretty full
and enriching life, but LAPC is a wonderful enhancement
to it.
