More than any other neighborhood, Hollywood is synonymous in many people’s minds with what L.A. is all about: the glitz, the gutter, and everything in between.
Hollywood is more a state of mind than an actual place. Once again, this is a proposition both true and false. Hollywood most certainly exists (though it’s not actually an incorporated city like its neighbor, West Hollywood), but the movie industry hardly has any dealings here. Most studios are located in Burbank or Culver City, not in Hollywood itself.
Many expect glitzy restaurants, fabulous stores, and expansive estates. Instead, Hollywood is a run-down district full of ramshackle housing, souvenir shops, and assorted tourist traps, not to mention some patches that are downright dangerous at night.
