Is your camera gathering dust on the shelf? Are you taking pictures constantly, but not getting the results you want, or are you an experienced photographer just looking for new ideas and inspiration?
Whether you've been taking photos all your life or have just picked up a camera for the first time, come join us for a relaxed discussion and critique of our photographic endeavors!
Each month we will choose a theme and bring in our best work to share with the group.
This month's theme will be "Transformation".
This time of year is all about change, in the season itself (everywhere but L.A.), in the holidays (costumes for Halloween and in trading the Old World for the New in Thanksgiving), and this month, in the leadership of the country!
Celebrate a transformation of any kind in a sequence of five or six images that capture the spirit of change.
Print 3 copies of each of your 5-6 images at 4"x5" or larger to pass around during discussion. Don't bring in a laptop, ipod, or iphone to show us your pics on the screen, please make prints. If you significantly edit any of your pictures in photoshop or similar software, please bring in 1 copy of the "before" image for comparison.
Also bring in 3 photos you like and 3 photos you don't like by other photographers (we will do this every month), and be prepared to tell us why you think those pictures appeal or do not appeal to you. These can be any type of image, and can be from books, magazines, or can be prints.
We'll be discussing photography books and magazines as well, so feel free to bring in favorites to review for the rest of us!
PLEASE NOTE:
This is a PHOTOGRAPHY group, you must take photos to participate, so start taking your camera everywhere and taking pictures whenever you get the chance! Don't wait until the night before to start shooting images, and please don't bring in your old shots, even if they are fantastic.
This is a discussion/critique, so we'll keep it friendly, but we will be looking for the good AND bad in every image. Be prepared to tell others what you don't like about their work as well as what you like, and expect constructive criticism about your own efforts. Stay open minded, and please leave the ego and defensive attitude at home. This is not a contest, the point of the group is to help each other continue to improve as photographers.
In addition to the evening meeting during the 3rd week of each month, we'll have an optional "photo day" once a month on the weekend. This will be a separate event from the regular group, so if you can't make it, it won't affect participation in this discussion, but it will give you a chance to work on your photographic skills with other members of the group, so join us if you can.
Everyone is welcome, so please don't be reluctant to join us because you are unhappy with the photos you are taking. Regardless of experience, a fresh set of eyes is always helpful, and we want to hear your "point of view"! |
